Liposuction is commonly known as a surgical procedure where a surgeon creates skin incisions to give an access point for cannulas to siphon out fat and help improve the patient’s body contour. However, since we are dealing with skin incisions, clients often worry about the consequent scarring that may occur after the procedure.
In this article, we will be talking about how liposuction scars will look like or how it may or may not cause additional cosmetic or dermatological problems. I will do my best to enlighten you and inform you how liposuction scars will be like after each liposuction procedure.
Liposuction, as I mentioned before, requires skin incisions to gain access to your fats. However, have I mentioned that these skin incisions are so small? Yes, this is true. Skin incisions required for liposuction are so minuscule that people can barely notice if liposuction scars do develop after the procedure.
The reason why liposuction scars are so minute is because most surgeons, depending on the type of liposuction, use a micro-cannula. This cannula is so small that it can equal the size of the lead on a No. 2 pencil. The smaller the cannula, the smaller the skin incision required to grant access.
One other great technique surgeons use to make scarring inconspicuous is by creating skin incisions in areas that are not easily seen. This means that if you are going to undergo an abdominal liposuction, incisions will be made under your bikini line, so nothing will show when you go out on the beach. Another great example is when you undergo a liposuction for double chins. Skin incision can be done below your jaw to make scarring, if there is any, inconspicuous.
Liposuction scars should be minimal to none, considering the small skin incisions surgeons are going to make. This can be determined by your genes. If your family has scarring tendencies, such as the ability to develop sever scarring even at the smallest or superficial wounds, then this may mean you will be expecting liposuction scars.
When you do develop scars and you want to get rid of them, even if they are not that easily seen, then there you need not worry because of scar treatments. Most people used to believe that Vitamin E ointments are great to reduce scars. However, recent studies have shown that Vitamin E has no effect with helping treat scars. In fact, 90% of the cases they studied showed that Vitamin E even worsened the appearance of the scars.
One of the best way to treat liposuction scars is to use Retin A and apply it over the incision line after it has healed and closed. After that is done, cover the scar with a paper tape. Wait a few days, remove the tape, clean the area, and repeat the whole process until you notice the scar has faded.
This procedure has been reported to work for scarring after liposuction is a treatment of choice advised by a lot of cosmetic surgeons. However, since people are different, the results may vary. The best way to get more information and a medication prescription is to ask your dermatologist.
