The True Factors That Lower Cosmetic Surgery Cost

As is true with almost all people, we always disapprove of a particular part or feature of our body. One thing where this greatly applies is how we view our bodies. We go through great measures to modify parts or details in our bodies we dislike. From a simple visit to the gym to lying on an operating table and waiting for your surgeon, we all take different measures to redefine our physical structure.

Cosmetic surgery is one of the most popular and most sought after type of surgery in the medical world. It’s one of the kinds of surgeries where people literally line up for. The media has given it an image as a quick and easy way to get that chased after paradigm of beauty, which is partially true. Cosmetic surgery covers all surgeries performed for the explicit reason of modifying, enhancing, or renewing a body part. Cosmetic surgery includes liposuction, breast enlargement, face lift, rhinoplasty, and the many other beauty-related procedures.

However, the benefits of plastic surgery seems too good to be true, but as always, there’s a catch. Everything has its price and plastic surgery is not the exception. Cosmetic surgery cost can range from between $1,000 – $20,000. The total price relies on many, many factors. Let’s discuss these factors and how they affect your overall cost.

The number one determining factor of your cosmetic surgery cost will be the surgeon’s fee. Of course, you need to pay the guy who’s going to do the magic! However, the price for each surgeon varies, depending on the circumstances. The difficulty and number of hours required to perform a particular surgery may contribute to a more expensive professional fee. Furthermore, if your surgeon has class A credentials, you may need to pay him accordingly too. But this does not mean you need to go looking for lesser experienced surgeons to get a cheaper deal. To maintain safety and have a guarantee of a job well done after the procedure, you need to choose board-certified surgeons. Look for members of the ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgeons). They may be a bit pricey but their experience is well-based and they are very oriented towards patient safety and care. ASPS do not accept members who do not comply to their experience, safety and code of conduct requirements.

Another factor affecting cosmetic surgery cost is the facility usage. You may be seeing a higher bill if you need to stay overnight or days after the procedure for monitoring purposes. The cost may also go up if the procedure takes long to complete. However, if your surgeon owns his own facility, then the facility charge may be cheaper since it will fall under the umbrella of the surgeon’s fee.

A third factor that affects cosmetic surgery cost is the medications and anesthesia that need to be administered. Basically, general anesthesia is more expensive than local anesthesia. However, not all plastic surgeries can be done with local anesthesia. Traditional liposuction, for example, requires you to be under a general anesthetic. Medications like lipolytics, epinephrine, and others or supplements like oxygen may cause additional costs too. Furthermore, you will need to take prescription medications after the surgery. You may be prescribed analgesics for the pain and anti-inflammatory drugs for the swelling.

Lastly, another factor that can cause an increase in your cosmetic surgery cost is the devices and supplies needed to make the procedure possible. These supplies may refer to injectables (i.e. botox, collagen, and the like), and implants (i.e. breast, chin, cheek implants). The surgery may also charge for the use of the instruments and disposable supplies like operating sponges, syringes, needles, cannulas, masks and gowns.

These are the factors that affect your overall cosmetic surgery cost. You need to consider them greatly when planning. Cutting costs in exchange for lesser quality or a less experienced surgeon is not a wise choice to make. Surgery is surgery. Wherever you are in the world, they always carry risks and possible complications. That is why it is important to not only spend for your looks, but also for your safety.
